This side up *** Acrylic painting on cardboard *** On a map of the world, every side could be the top side, cause there is no up or down in space. But most maps of the world, if not all, show the colonial world order - and we don’t question why Africa and South America for example are on the lower side, whereas most of the richer and more powerful countries are depicted on the upper half. In this painting of a world map, thanks to the depth of the material, I have added the note “This side up” on each side to illustrate it. It will be delivered with the instructions to rotate it regularly when hanging on the wall .

Nature painted an abstract artwork on my balcony *** The play of light and shadow on this cold winter day is so intense. It’s like nature, the inherent neutral force, is in the mood to make a clear statement, showing all its power, creativity and prolific expressions in short, volatile moments. I was just watching, so amazed by all the changing lines and structures. Winter light is so beautiful.

Birthmarks ** 1,20x1 m ** This painting, one of my first ones in 2021, is about how much of our character, our personality, our existence as a human being is all set when we are born and how “successful” we are living with our given nature. Are we able to live the life that we want, that feels right for us? Do we aim to develop our full personal potential? Or do we just want to have a good time, even if this means we have to betray ourselves? I think each one of us is complete the day we are born. We are no empty vessels that can be filled with any content, but we have to deal with what we have - and often this is much more than we realize. “Birthmarks” is about uniqueness and its everlasting features that shine like traces or are clear visible structures throughout our whole life.

Taking a break *** Ball Pen drawing on paper *** For some strange reasons I prefer drawing with ball pens and markers. Pencils usually drive me crazy; I‘ll end up with too much erasing. The reason for this is that when drawing with a pencil, I always think: I can make as many mistakes as I want, I can fix this later. I do this to take off the pressure, but in fact I need this pressure to produce a good result. Art is hard work most of the time, it is not effortless, but a process that needs focus, precision and a clear mind. Some people think that drinking or drugs help to overcome blocks. That’s an illusion, too - cause when you’re high as a kite you can’t see the difference between a good work and a shitty one, everything is great then and you think you’re a genius - until you sober up. So there are only two possibilities: you must stay high all the time, or you face reality and accept that being an artist is a constant battle with yourself. Amen 💪

Night at your place *** I watched some YouTube videos and bought small wooden panels to experiment before I‘d start the next big one. In the end, I painted all of them as one painting, because I just love big paintings. Even my largest works, considering the small size of my studio, could be even bigger. If I could, I would like to paint on everything, creating an endless, limitless artwork and live in it. Well, I can actually do this in my mind🧠👀

Evening at Instagram 2 *** To practice painting without any reworking, I sometimes browse through Instagram and make random sketches of people directly on the canvas. The only rule is to accept everything as it comes out the first time, no corrections, no “improvements”. This is the second one in a series of 4. I have no idea whom I have portrait here; I have my phone in one hand, paint and then scroll on to the next pic.

My way *** Painted on unprimed heavy sailcloth, this painting was kind of a breakthrough for me. I realized that all I need to do - in art and in life - is to trust my own judgment and gut feelings, and accept it as mine, no matter if I like it or not. I’ve promised myself to be authentic in my artistic expression, avoiding cliche and challenging me of things get too ‘comfortable’. Ahhh.... 😇🥊

Memories *** I think it is interesting how we remember things and what exactly we can recall, especially when something happened a long time ago. Do we make up parts of it over the years? Would it be possible to recall everything, if I just think hard enough about it? Or if the right trigger is activated. I think that every experience in my life is stored in my brain and it would be so great if I could access everything anytime, but I can’t. Probably a safety feature preventing me from going insane.🤪

Dreipfuhlpark — Landscapes are a bit difficult for me, because I don’t want them to look sappy. First I had a sky full of clouds, but for some strange reason I think the sky must be black.

DE-2020 *** This is actually a political painting

DE-2020 *** This is actually a political painting about my country, Germany, and latest developments. The black area symbolizes our fascist past, war, destruction, killing millions of people. The yellow-orange stands for the German nature with its strong emotions that may not be that obvious, but they are always there, a basic drive that can be positive or negative. And the white area, covered with tiny red splatters like blood stains symbolizes the attempt by some right wing people to cover this up as if nothing has happened, the illusion of a clean plate. This all was kind of intensified in the last year IMO.

Mad at you — If u allow yourself to feel the complete spectrum of feelings and you accept every feeling as your unique way of seeing the world, live becomes so much easier. I’m working on it, not to struggle with “bad feelings”, not to fight them, but just have them and accept this. My personal #1 of bad feelings is that I seem to be quite often mad about something 🤓 this is actually funny, because I know that my internal rants don’t make any difference to the world, but maybe it is just my way of staying alert.
